Angliski, Kultūra
Due to the growing popularity of many films that are currently being released, we decided that it would be an interesting and useful idea for readers (especially teenagers) to write monthly reviews about some popular films so that everyone could find something new for themselves and their interests.

So if you wanted to watch any well-known movie, but for some reason were doubting – our reviews and recommendations will help you!
As a debut film, we chose a movie from Disney that is in the public eye nowadays – “Cruella“, which we’ve watched recently.

Plot: The action of the film takes place in London in the 1970s, during the early days of punk rock. Estella was a sweet and kind child – at least her mother tried very hard to make her grow like that, but because of her tendency to cruelty, her mother lovely called her “Cruella.” Due to the rebellious behavior at school, Estella and her mother were planning to move to London. Plans collapse when mother is unexpectedly pushed off a cliff by the host’s three ferocious Dalmatians, and the girl is left an orphan. Estella runs away to London and befriends street urchins Jasper and Horace, who take her in.
For the next ten years, Estella and her friends survive by stealing. Thanks to unusual circumstances, or rather, after Estella, being drunk, remakes a shop window in a store where she got a job as a cleaner, Baroness von Hellman – esteemed fashion designer – notices her. Estella gets a job from her and wins her trust.
However, Estella soon notices that her boss is wearing a pendant that once belonged to Catherine, Estella’s mother. After the Baroness claims that one of the servants stole it earlier, Estella asks Jasper and Horace to return the pendant.
This is how Cruella is born, who has no other goal than to take absolutely everything from her rival. Even her beloved Dalmatians.
The film is quite good and entertaining. It is very easy to watch, since there are no plot twists, everything goes quite consistently and predictably. The most memorable thing in the film is the dynamic scenes – the fashionable confrontation between Cruella and the Baroness accompanied by epic music. Each of their conflict, each fashion show, each action and performance are something that is worth watching this movie for. It’s wonderful.
Punk culture fits well Cruella’s image, who tries to figure out the meaning of the hidden sides of her personality through creative expression and become the face of a bold, unbridled rebellion of ideas in the fashion world. Punk aesthetics, costumes, lighting, or music work incredibly well for a film, it all adds the drama to the story.
We consider the lack of deep thought as a disadvantage of the film. In simple words – the film is beautiful on the outside, but on the inside – it is ordinary and unremarkable.

Despite some cons in the plot, we liked the movie, but this is not the type of films that absolutely every viewer would like. So if you are interested in the life stories of not only heroes, but also so-called “villains”, and would like to listen to a story about their lives and have a good time with the well-known villain of the Disney universe – we definitely recommend this movie for watching!
Overall our rating for this film is 7.5/10.
