Russian artists are cancelled worldwide.

From February 24th there is a very tense political situation between Ukraine and Russia. Because of that, many artists from the Russian Federation are cancelled all over the word .

The European Broadcasting Union said that Russia will not participate in Eurovision 2022. The Royal Opera House has cancelled a planned residency by Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet which is one of the oldest and most prestigious ballet companies in the world. “A summer season of the Bolshoi Ballet at the Royal Opera House had been in the final stages of planning,” Royal Opera House said. “Unfortunately, under the current circumstances, the season cannot now go ahead.” Also the local Ukrainian community had previously called for the cancellations. The Helix theater in Dublin also cancelled a performance of Swan Lake by the Royal Moscow Ballet.

The Munich Philharmonic has parted ways with its chief conductor Valery Gergiev, over his ties to Putin. “With immediate effect, there will be no further concerts by the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra under his direction,” Dieter Reiter, Munich’s mayor said.

Gergiev has been dropped by his managers and had several upcoming concerts cancelled. The Edinburgh International Festival has asked for his resignation. “Edinburgh is twinned with the city of Kyiv and this action is being taken in sympathy with, and support of, its citizens,” it said. The Rotterdam theatre also threatened to cancel its annual Gergiev festival this year, Switzerland’s Verbier festival has asked Gergiev to resign his position as music director of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, and also he was replaced for performances in NYC.  A Carnegie Hall spokesperson attributed the decision to “recent world events”. Some upcoming performances in May by Russia’s Mariinsky Orchestra have also been cancelled. Meanwhile, Louis Tomlinson, Franz Ferdinand and Green Day are among the acts to have withdrawn from gigs in Russia. Tomlinson said: “The safety of my fans is my priority and my thoughts go out to the people of Ukraine and all those suffering from this needless war.”

One of the stars directly affected by conflict is opera singer Anna Netrebko. She is scheduled to appear in Puccini’s opera “Turandot” on April 30. One of her concerts, planned for February 25 in Denmark, was already cancelled after pressure to denounce ties with Putin. Two days later, Netrebko and her Azerbaijani husband, released a joint statement denouncing the war: “I want this war to end and for people to be able to live in peace. This is what I hope and pray for.” She also added, “forcing artists, or any public figure to voice their political opinions in public and to denounce their homeland is not right. This should be a free choice. I am not a political person. I am not an expert in politics.”.

In our personal thoughts, politics and art should be separated and artists who are just entertaining people should not lose money, suffer and throw a bunch of preparation down the drain. We stay for peace and suggest you to do the same.
