‘’I had no idea I married a monster.’’

‘’You didn’t. You married a Gucci.’’

A biographical crime drama film, which is directed by Ridley Scott, is based on true events and tells the story of the lives of Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci.

The storyline, more or less, starts out with how Patrizia Reggiani, a middle class woman who works for her father’s business, meets Maurizio Gucci – a member of the well-known Gucci family. After putting an effort into the relationship with her and Maurizio, she finally gets him to fall in love with her and they end up getting married. Everything is going well and their life seems like a dream, until they start facing challenges regarding their family’s business and their own relationship. With the escalation of the events, everything seems to be falling apart and there is no hope for them to be happy again.

Characters and actors:

  • Patrizia Reggiani – Lady Gaga, a very well know person in the music industry, who has also found herself amidst different projects in the movie world.
  • Maurizio Gucci – Adam Driver, who has been a part of many interesting movies, such as “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Marriage Story”.
  • Aldo Gucci – Al Pacino, a talented actor who has showed his range in various films, per example “Scarface”, “The Godfather: Part II”.
  • Paolo Gucci – Jared Leto, who has made a strong impression with his participation in movies like “Requiem for a Dream” and “American Psycho”.
  • Rodolfo Gucci – Jeremy Irons
  • Giuseppina “Pina” Auriemma – Salma Hayek

Plot – In terms of plot originality and enjoyment, we should actually be looking at the accuracy of events, which is a questionable thing. Of course, it’s a movie and it has to be adjusted to make it work better, however the motive definitely has to stay clear. The idea on how everything can easily go from a dream to a nightmare is definitely felt and seen at the core of the film, but there is also a visible inconsistency within the script. The jokes, drama and other individual aspects sometimes have trouble standing out on their own, and when put together they can also seem kind of messy. With the overall experience being pleasant, we give it a 7,8/10.

Acting – The acting was direct. Actors worked really well with the material they were given and you could see that they have experience and an understanding of human behaviour. There were some parts where the emotions felt ‘’not so real’’, but overall, it was realistic. We give it a 9/10.

Pacing – Out of everything, the timeline and movement of the events is what bothered us the most. The speed of that was very uneven and it caused confusion. While it’s understandable that the director of the film probably tried to include as much as possible from the base material, the weird pacing still was a thing that didn’t let us enjoy the film fully. With the end scenes approaching, the movie started to lose energy and the desirable moment of culmination. The rating – 6,2/10.

Cinematography – The cinematography in this film was amazing. It really told the story of the film effectively. The camera angles, choice of lighting was really on point and it fit the atmosphere of the film. “House of Gucci” definitely does leave its strongest impression visually. We rate it a 9/10.

Overshadowed by the elegance, drama and the great cast, while watching this movie it’s easy to forget that the characters are real people who have their own legitimate experience, point of view on everything. After all, only the Gucci family knows the real story.

In conclusion, we think that this film is worth watching. It’s not a must watch film, but if you happen to watch it then it’s cool too. In the end, we rate it a 7,8 out of 10.
