“Broken people save broken people.”

Sgt. Denise Wade (The Guilty)

Do you like movies with tense atmosphere and an unexpected ending? We do. Searching for similar movie to watch, we came up with a movie named The Guilty.

The Guilty is a 2021 American solid crime thriller with some unexpected plot twists, directed and produced by Antoine Fuqua, from a screenplay by Nic Pizzolatto. Its special thing is that all the events take place only in 1-3 locations. So theoretically you can perceive the whole movie as one scene.

The Guilty centers on demoted police officer, Joe Baylor, assigned to a call dispatch desk call operator, who tries to save a distressed caller. However, he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out of hard situations. Joe answers a call from a woman named Emily Lighton who reveals she has been abducted. The officer learns that she and her abductor are traveling in a white van, but Emily is forced to hang up before she can provide more details. Joe relays the information to the California Highway Patrol but they are unable to locate the van without a license plate number. So now his mission is to save the woman and her two children: girl Abby and her younger brother Oliver. Throughout the movie we can observe the process of doing police officers’ job with all the difficulties.

The main role was played by unique actor Jake Gyllenhaal – he really did an awesome job, as he always does. We’ll be happy to see him again in similar type of movies.

Even though this movie didn’t get enough attention, our personal rating for The Guilty is 9/10.

!Spoiler Warning! After watching this movie, you are probably going to have a strange feeling of calmness. The ending is really cool but honestly we expected a different development of events, which could lead to an even better version of the ending – a bad ending. In our opinion, that would fit better into the plot.
