1. How many zodiacs there are?

There are 12:Rat, cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, chicken, dog, pig.

2. Why they are exactly 12?

There are many kinds of sayings, and one is:

Personally my zodiac is the pig.
